GEODYNAMIC EVOLUTION OF THE SEROUENOUT NEOPROTEROZOIC PAN-AFRICAN TERRANE, TUAREG SHIELD, ALGERIA

Texto do resumo

The Sérouenout terrane is an allochthonous unit tentatively considered to represent a juvenile terrane and is thought to be lying upon an Orosirian lithospheric terrane named the Afara terrane. This crustal terrane is associated with remnants of high pressure rocks found in the Ti-N-Eggoleh area, which apparently belongs to the Sérouenout terrane, and were interpreted as a high-pressure meta-ophiolitic series comprising primarily oceanic metasediments indicative of an ancient subduction that has yet to be investigated.
Geological information is, however, very poorly available for the study area. We perform, thus, field, bulk-rock and isotopic geochemistry, U-Pb and Hf geochronology from sampled metamafic, metafelsic and metasedimentary rocks, in order to acquire relevant information regarding the major tectonic events and geodynamic evolution of this portion of the Hoggar that needs more exploring.
Our preliminary data indicates that the SAA domain of nappes (Sérouenout, Aghefsa, Aguendis) represents an accretionary complex associated to a Pan-African suture zone and thrust onto a passive margin (the LATEA microcontinent), generated through the consumption of a Neoproterozoic oceanic realm.
